Information

English Springer Spaniels were bred to flush birds but their real job is being a member of the family. Springers will stay near you when you're ill, make you laugh when you are sad and surprise you with their creative antics.

Springers are highly intelligent and require a "job" to do. Some dogs announce the arrival of the mail person every day; some keep the yard clear of squirrels, crows and snails; and some are gifted navigators for shopping jaunts.

When a springer is part of your family, you will never be alone in the house again. Their curiousity about their world make them the perfect companion to accompany you to your bath for personal hygiene duties. Springers do not point and laugh at naked humans, nor do they stare. They offer a convenient tongue towel when stepping out of the bath and act as an alarm for all hair dryers. Some may even check the water temperature in the bath for you.

For those adoptors with varying tastes, we can offer the field bred dog and the bench bred dog. The field bred springer has less coat and more freckles. The bench bred springer has more coat and less freckles. Both have those moist straight-to-the-heart eyes that beg "more food please!" They are equally intelligent and manipulative.

It doesn't matter which style or colour of springer you prefer; all are bed hogs, wiggle butts and cuddlers. Deluxe models offer snoring, counter-surfing and mud puddle waders. (Obviously, if you have a mud puddle wader, you also have a cuddler so you take heed to protect your favourite outfit.) Many are quick studies when it comes to children, other dogs and cats.

If you've ever watched a springer work in a field or gait in the show ring, you will have seen one of the world's delights. Through the work of reputable breeders strengthening their lines and retaining the breed traits, we are able to enjoy the English Springer Spaniel.
